We all know how useful social media is for marketing and connecting to an audience. In fact, digital marketing has out-grown traditonal marketing in terms of spending in recent years, indicating that marketing is a constantly evolving paradigm. This article will explore the pros and cons of social media, particularly for large mainstream companies that have to develop the ways in which they market themselves and their products.

Constant memes and content has been built around the news of the newest Sonic film. When first announced, the internet and social media went mental with thoughts of nostalgia and remembering the good old times playing on the old-fashioned games consoles. This announcement certainly brought the hype, however, the reception that the film got when the trailer dropped was apocalyptic. Thousands of negative memes and content was spread around social media like a wildfire. This was due to the human looking nature of Sonic. And as Sonic is a fictional hedgehog, people were baffled with the way that they designed him. In recent times, film companies would just ignore the hate and release the film as a lot of time and money had been spent on it. However, Sony pictures knew the power of social media and didn't want to release a film that the public would likely not enjoy. Therefore, instead of releasing the film on the 8th November 2019, they postponed it for 2020 where Sonic would look better. And boy oh boy it was a good decision. The hype for Sonic was resurged like Cthulhu himself into a hugely positive reaction from the internet. Thousands of positive memes and content inspired by the change of Sonic's appearance will likely impact the total sales for the film.

If you are to run a large or small company, you have to understand the power of social media. It is a free platform for you to show off your company to people who may never of heard of it. Social media is not some kind of omnipotent or omniscient being, it is normal human beings being able to express themselves and listen to the ideas and opinions of others. It is something that everyone should respect and if not treated right, it could lead to the demise of your company.
